Henry VIII (28 June – 28 January ) was King of England from until his death in Henry is best known for his six marriages, and, in particular, his efforts to have his first marriage (to Catherine of Aragon) disagreement with Pope Clement VII on the question of such an annulment led Henry to initiate the English Reformation, separating the Church of England Father: Henry VII of England.

Froude provides a thorough background of life in the 16th century and goes on to analyze Henry's reign with all his strengths and faults. This is an excellent and thoroughly researched volume, considering its publication date.

While more recent histories have access to more materials, Froude's discussions and detail are superb.4/5(9). Henry VIII married six times between and in pursuit of heirs and political alliances. His wives were Catherine of Aragon (the mother of Mary I), Anne Boleyn (the mother of Elizabeth I), Jane Seymour (the reign of Henry the Eighth book of Henry’s successor, Edward VI), Anne of Cleves.

Indeed, I have loved all her books. Both fiction and non-fiction. I also love historical fiction. Phillipa Gregory, Hillary Mantel, Antonia Fraser, et al. But Weir’s biography of Henry VIII was the bo.
